Yes, the velcro is what came with the kit, however, it still seems sticky but it would be about 8 years old. I'll get it out in the sun and try applying pressure. I also thought about burning holes in the reinforced areas and running paracord from corner to corner just so the fabric gap seal doesn't fly off and go into the prop.
The u-joint I have is the red one like the picture Stuart sent. It is new. I thought maybe it was an elongated bolt hole so I removed the u-joint and just the joint itself has some play. Without cutting off the red rubber seal, I don't see any way to look at it. The problem with a new one will be getting the holes in the same place as the old one.

Jay,
Are you using the velcro supplied by the factory? The stuff that came
with my Firefly was really sticky but didn't get really stuck until it
had quite a lot of pressure applied to it. It had been folded and the
folds didn't want to come out at first but out in the sunshine when it
warmed up a little I rubbed it all over again and it has stuck really well.
How long has your paint had to cure? Don't know if that matters but
something to think about anyway.
Does the universal joint look like the one in the picture? If it does,
and it has any play in it, I would replace it. Same with the rod ends on
the tubes, mine had no perceivable slop when new except between the bolt
and the eye but that was a very small amount.
I don't know how the joint is constructed under the red seal but was
impressed with it and was told it would outlast the plane. The plans
still showed how to make the torque tube joint with bolts but this is a
much better solution. Maybe you got a bad one?

Two quick items I'm dealing with as I finish a new build:
I painted my plane with glossy paint. I put my velcro on the wings for
the gap seal but it doesn't seem to stick very well. I tried a sample
of contact cement but that didn't seem to do well either as it seems
the glossy paint doesn't have "teeth" to grab into. Any ideas how to
deal with that other than making the lexan hard gap seal or sanding
down the paint?
My ailerons seem to have a lot of slop. Upon investigation the u-joint
has slop (not from the bolt holes but the u-joint itself) and the
upper control rod ends seem to have some slop too. Is this common with
Kolb Firestars? Is this going to cause a flutter problem? I do have
the ailerons counterweighted and balanced but I've never flown nor
worked on an any plane with slop like this. It surprised me being a
new build and does make me wonder if this is going to create any
issues when I get to test fly.
Thanks,
Jay

Just an update. I miss spoke. The velcro I have is the 3m brand. I did push on it hard and with a few days it really stuck.
On the u-joint, I found it on Aircraft Spruce and reading the reviews someone else had a sloppy one when new so apparently some are sloppy.
Thanks to everyone for the help.
